Jobs at JCP Downtown:

Jewish Community Project Downtown (JCP) is located in the heart of Tribeca, and brings people together to celebrate Jewish life.  We have established a diverse, creative, inclusive, and open Jewish community in Lower Manhattan that meets the needs of the growing downtown population.

We are looking to fill the three roles below, either as a combined hire or with separate professionals.

A. Tefillah/Shira Leader

JCP Downtown is looking to hire a talented and engaging Tefillah/Shira leader for its Hebrew School Project (HSP) for the 2014–2015 school year.  The ideal candidate will teach prayer and songs in our K–7 classrooms on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, and work with our team to facilitate tefillah and/or song experiences for the entire JCP community on select Shabbatot and holidays throughout the program year.

Candidates should:

  • Be able to engage students in learning about Jewish tradition through music.
  • Have experience working in Jewish educational settings teaching tefillah content and synagogue skills.
  • Be comfortable leading tefillah and shira with and without a guitar (or other portable instrument).
  • Be interested in learning and growing as a teacher, and as a Jewish professional.
  • Be experienced in leading prayer experiences for multiple age groups, including adults.

B. Shabbat / Holiday Co-Leader

JCP Downtown is seeking a talented musician who will join our rabbi to co-lead various Shabbat services, holiday celebrations, periodic life cycle events such as B’nai Mitzvah, and High Holiday services (High Holiday work to begin in 2015).  Candidates should play guitar or another portable instrument, and be comfortable using that instrument during Shabbat and holiday services.  There is also an opportunity for the right candidate to teach tefillah and shira in our Hebrew School.

C. Tot Shabbat Leader

JCP Downtown is seeking a dynamic and energetic musician-educator to lead our monthly Tot Shabbat program. This Saturday morning program takes place in Tribeca, and is designed for children who are five years of age and younger, together with their parents.  The ideal Tot Shabbat Leader will create a joyful and interactive Jewish experience, which includes music, singing, prayer, story-telling, puppets, and movement.
