Online Hebrew Tutoring (OHT) FAQ
HSP Online Hebrew Tutoring (OHT) FAQ:
1. What is OHT?
OHT is an extension of the Hebrew curriculum, offering one-to-one Hebrew tutoring through Skype outside of class time.
2. Who is eligible for OHT?
OHT is available for all students and their families, for learners who range from beginner to advanced Hebrew language skills. OHT will be especially helpful for students approaching Bar/Bat Mitzvah age who plan to read Hebrew prayers and Torah during the service.
3. Why might I consider OHT for my child?
OHT will enable students to deepen and enhance their Hebrew language skills and achieve proficiency with the language through one-to-one tutoring, catering to each child’s specific needs. The sessions are fun and innovative, making Hebrew reading simple. OHT sessions are a great way to reinforce classroom learning, helping students build a strong foundation from the basic Hebrew letters up to full Hebrew stories, reading prayers in the siddur and Torah portions.
4. Why might I consider OHT for myself?
OHT will enable parents and family members to deepen and enhance their Hebrew language skills and achieve proficiency with the language through one-to-one tutoring. OHT will be especially helpful for parents with children approaching Bar/Bat Mitzvah age who plan to read Hebrew prayers and Torah during the service. OHT will enable parents to ‘keep up’ with your children as their language abilities grow. Additionally, OHT sessions will teach and reinforce Hebrew reading in the siddur, enabling all family members to read the prayers during JCP community-wide Shabbat and holiday experiences.
5. Is OHT required?
No. While OHT is optional, we encourage you to try a package of sessions and to share your feedback with us.
6. Do I have to commit to OHT for the entire school year?
No. OHT sessions come in either four or eight 30-minute session packages. You may purchase one package of sessions and decide later if you would like to continue with OHT sessions throughout the school year.
7. How does OHT relate to the classroom content being taught?
We will continue to provide a comprehensive Hebrew language curriculum in the HSP classes, including the small group Hebrew language initiative with the 3rd-6th Grade students and our use of the ‘Hebrew through Movement’ curriculum in all HSP grades. OHT tutors will meet with Sima routinely. Collaboration with these professionals is a central part of our mission to meet each child’s individual needs within the context of the group. Feedback and collaboration between the OHT tutors and the classroom teachers enhances both the group learning and the one-to-one sessions.
