Letter to the President: re – hunger
December 2nd, 2009Dear Mr. President,
We are JCP, Jewish Community Project in New York CIty, and we have been discussing hunger and poverty problems in class. We feel that these are extremely important issues that must immediately be addressed. Along with that we feel like this country could be doing a lot more to help the people in need.
We took a Midnight Run, and experienced very many homeless people on the streets in need of food. To help the few we could, we handed out lunch bags filled with dinner. We gave many people a good meal for the night, but we know that their are still thousands in New York City alone.
With your help, we could make a huge difference, and help so many families in need. We do have a few suggestions, and hope that you will carry them out. For one, we could raise the minimum wage to an acceptable amount that people can live off of. Secondly, we must put hunger and homelessness into our country’s priority, before exporting our precious food. In this country we have more than enough food to feed every single person well, yet we still don’t, but just export it to different countries.
These are very important issues, and we need you to address them as soon as you can. These will help millions of people, by feeding them and giving them a chance to survive. Please help us with our cause, and we hope you will listen and take it to heart.
Sincerely JCP B’nai Mitzvah Class,
