Tribeca Hebrew Transition Update
December 14th, 2009Dear Parents from the former Tribeca Hebrew After School Program,
A quick note to you now that the school year is well underway to say
hello and to share a few thoughts on the transition.
First, a big thanks to Lisa Kaye, Liat Silberman, Cheryl Whaley and
Karie Parker Davidson who have been helping ensure the year got off to
a healthy start. Thank you!
Approximately 45 students who were enrolled in Tribeca Hebrew last
year have made the transition to JCP’s Mechina program and from my
perspective, things are going great. It took a week or two at the
beginning of the year to iron out some logistics but things are now in
full swing.
The students from Tribeca Hebrew seem to have a strong sense of their
Jewish identity, a good handle on the Hebrew letters – both reading
and writing – and continue to impress everyone with creative thinking
and open minds. It’s clear to me that the Tribeca Hebrew curriculum
set the students up for success and overall, the transition and
integration appears to be seamless.
And Marielle and Brian are amazing additions to the JCP staff team.
There are four Kindergarten classes, three first grade classes, two
second grade classes, and one class each of 3-5th graders. We also
have 16 children in our B’nai Mitzvah program. Each day the students
are enjoying a wonderful song session followed by their classes.
Due to the pipeline growth, we’ll be offering more class options next
academic year on a more flexible schedule – which will be announced in
March.
Until then, I look forward to seeing you at the Hanukkah festivities
over the next couple of weeks and want to wish each of you and your
families a Happy Hanukkah and best 2010 wishes.
Shabbat Shalom,
Darren
