JCP’S 4TH ANNUAL MOTHER’S DAY LUNCHEON PANEL

NICHOLAS KRISTOF
Nicholas Kristof is a New York Times op-ed columnist and two-time Pulitzer prize winner. His columns have often focused on global health, poverty, and gender issues in the developing world. After joining The New York Times in 1984, initially covering economics, Kristof served as a Times correspondent in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo. He also covered presidential politics and later became Associate Managing Editor of the Times, responsible for Sunday editions. In 1990 Mr. Kristof and his wife, Sheryl WuDunn, won a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of China’s Tiananmen Square democracy movement. Mr. Kristof won a second Pulitzer in 2006 for what the judges called “his graphic, deeply reported columns that, at personal risk, focused attention on genocide in Darfur and that gave voice to the voiceless in other parts of the world.” He has also won other prizes including the George Polk Award, the Overseas Press Club award, the Michael Kelly award, the Online News Association award and the American Society of Newspaper Editors award. Mr. Kristof and Ms. WuDunn are authors of “China Wakes: The Struggle for the Soul of a Rising Power”, “Thunder from the East: Portrait of a Rising Asia,” and “Half the Sky: From Oppression to Opportunity for Women Worldwide.”

Mr. Kristof graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard College and then studied law at the University of Oxford on a Rhodes scholarship, graduating with first-class honors. He resides outside New York City with his wife, Sheryl and their three children: Gregory, Geoffrey and Caroline.

MIKAELA BEARDSLEY
Mikaela Beardsley is an independent documentary producer. Beardsley studied literature at Princeton, and has been working in documentary film and television since 1993, producing primarily for PBS and HBO. Her credits include Martin Scorsese Presents: The Blues, James Blunt: Return to Kosovo, I Am An Animal, Martin Scorsese Presents Val Lewton: The Man in the Shadows and Reporter: A Film with Nicholas D. Kristof. She is currently adapting “Half the Sky” for television.

CAMPBELL BROWN • MODERATOR
Campbell Brown anchors Campbell Brown, a daily prime-time news program that airs on CNN at 8 pm, ET. Brown, the only non-partisan cable news anchor at 8 pm, takes a common sense approach to reporting the day’s news, talks to newsmakers, and moderates lively discussions and debates with those who represent all points of view. She was part of CNN’s award winning coverage of the last presidential election.

Prior to joining CNN, Brown worked with NBC News for 11 years. While there, Brown served as co-anchor of Weekend Today. She also served as the main substitute anchor for Brian Williams and a primary correspondentfor NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and the weekday Today show. For NBC, she provided award-winning reporting on Hurricane Katrina and covered the last two presidential elections. Brown made several trips to Iraq to report on the war, at which time she met her husband Dan Senor. He too is an active enthusiastic member of the JCP!
