JCP Announces New Early Childhood Center Director

It is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors announces the selection of Alicia Stoller as our next Director of the JCP Early Childhood Center. Alicia will succeed our founding director, Sharon Shorofsky Mack, on July 1, 2017.

Version 2Alicia began her work in early childhood education as a classroom teacher, and her experience includes senior administrative roles in training, supporting and coaching teachers in curriculum design and overall professional development. She was one of the founding administrators at Avenues: World School, serving as the Associate Division Head for the Early Learning Center. As a consultant to early childhood programs, she has provided guidance on program and curriculum development, professional training and classroom practice. She serves on the faculty at Bank Street College of Education, teaching classes in the General Teacher Education Program, the Leadership Program and the Early Childhood Urban Education Initiative, and serving as an advisor supporting student teachers. Some of JCP’s own teachers were taught by Alicia during their studies at Bank Street.

Alicia has spent extensive time in preschool classrooms at respected educational programs including Gan Hayeled Nursery School (CT), the 92nd Street Y Nursery School and The Packer Collegiate Institute. She also directed the 92nd Street Y’s preschool camp program.

Raised in New York City, Alicia received her undergraduate degree in drama, ethics and political philosophy at Vassar College and earned a master’s degree in early childhood education from Bank Street.

The Search Committee was unanimous in its praise for Alicia and delighted by the strong fit between her experience and values and JCP’s approach to child development and our emphasis on community. Our thanks to the Committee for their thoughtful and diligent work.

Please join us in welcoming Alicia to JCP.
