Nitzanim (2nd & 3rd Grade) News

November 5th, 2009

During the month of October we’ve introduced new and challenging concepts to our knowledge-thirsty Nitzanim! Starting a unit dedicated to the concept of B’tzelem Elokim (being created in the image of God), we guided the students in personalizing this principle, considering the question “How am I an image of God?” We went on to explore fundamental Jewish values of V’ahavta L’re’acha Kamocha (“Love Your Fellow Person as You Love Yourself`), Pikuach Nefesh (which obliges us to intervene to save a human life where that is possible), and refraining from Lashon Harah (bad speech, gossip, tattling, etc.).

Some of these concepts are quite challenging to understand in a day-to-day context, and we really push the students to stretch their imagination and think! In order to guide them in this thinking process, we contextualized these values through role playing, skits, various art projects, games, and open discussion.

The children especially love creating their own skits and then describing them to the class. Once given an opportunity, they are very active participators, specifically through speaking and creating.

We invite you to send us any suggestions on the best way to access your child in a classroom setting, so that we better cater to their unique emotional and intellectual needs.

We see our teaching as an honor, and spending time with your children is a true pleasure!
