October with Chaveirim (Grades K-1) Teachers Josh and Naama

November 5th, 2009

We have been having such a GREAT time learning with your children – and we wanted to take this time to bring you up to speed on what we’ve been doing in the classroom.

With the fall Jewish holidays behind us (can’t wait until next year!), we’ve begun talking about a mini-holiday that takes place every week…That’s right!  Shabbat.  And we have been learning about Shabbat in all sorts of ways.  We’ve played games to get to know the ceremonies of Shabbat: Kiddush, candles, Challah etc.  We’ve told fun stories with silly titles like “Sammy the Spider’s First Shabbat” and “Way Too Much Challah Dough.”  We’ve made arts and crafts projects (to be sent home soon!) of our very own Challah covers, Kiddush cups and more.  And this past Tuesday, we even got to bake and eat (YUM!) our very own Challah!

On the Hebrew language, or Ivrit, front – we’ve been working with special Alef-Bet sheets to get to know our letters.  And for each letter, we also do some arts project so the students can work more closely with the shape of the letter.  Alef, Bet, Gimmel and Dalet are under our belts – next week, onto Hey!

It’s always a busy, productive and fun time here in the Chaverim classroom in Mechina.

We’re looking forward to more amazing moments as the year goes on.
