Nedivim 2nd Grade Update (Liat & Ashley)
February 1st, 2010The first month of this decade was dedicated to Tu Bishvat. We made Tu B’Shevet tree collages as well as family trees and from there segued to learning Hebrew names for the family members. We are now at a process of adding new family member vocabulary through various games based on The Simpsons family tree.
We also discussed the idea behind the holiday; the ways trees and nature contribute to our lives, and even learned the fact that in Israel, unlike here in cold New York, trees begin to bear fruit just in time for Tu Bishvat. We created our personal greeting cards for the trees, blessing them on their on Rosh HaShana. Nedivim are so wonderfully creative and inspired, we hope you had a chance to look at their cards.
As always, we continue to have our story time on the rug. This January we read a lovely classic by Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax”, as well as “Family Tree”, a story that correlates planting trees with the important value of patience. Nedivim is an insightful group of learners and we always enjoy discussing the stories after we read them and sharing ideas with each other.
Happy Tu Bishvat!
