As we mark the grim first anniversary of the October 7th tragedy, we hope that by joining together in our grief, we can find courage and hope in the strength of our Jewish community.
Community Candlelight Vigil and Streaming of One Year Later: A Community-Wide Commemoration presented by UJA
Join us and be part of a powerful downtown gathering on the evening of 10/7.
JCP is honored to be the official downtown streaming location of UJA’s One Year Later: A Community-Wide Commemoration where we’ll hear from Nova festival survivors, hostage family members, community leaders, and more. Together, we’ll light candles and find comfort and strength in our community.
Yizkor Memorial Service
On Yom Kippur, we take time to remember loved ones who are no longer with us. In addition to the opportunity to recite traditional Yizkor prayers, we will mourn and commemorate all those who were killed in the attack on 10/7. We will be joined by JCP community member Ilana Fischer, who will share the story of the life of her cousin, Aviv Atzili, who was killed on 10/7. Through poetry, song, and prayer, we will come together to mourn, to remember, and to find strength and resilience through our community.
Tekumah: How do we rebuild?
We will be joined by three members of Kibbutz Nir Oz: Liat Atzili, Ola Metzger, and Morran Moses. Liat was taken to Gaza as a hostage and was released after 54 days in Hamas captivity and has published part of her story in the New York Times. Ola’s and Morran’s family were murdered in captivity. Morran’s father, Gadi, remains in captivity in Gaza.
After we hear stories from Kibbutz Nir Oz, there will be multiple breakout sessions to discuss how to move forward, heal, and rebuild with dignity and purpose after experiencing a tragedy.
This event is presented by the Jewish Community Project in memory of Liat’s husband, Aviv and Ola’s father-in-law, Yoram, who were murdered by Hamas.
