We are thrilled to welcome CNN’s Bianna Golodryga for a conversation with Rabbi Deena about her compelling book Don’t Feed the Lion. With unexpected twists and engaging characters, the book explores how young people grapple with antisemitism, prejudice, allyship, and the courage to speak up. The conversation will be followed by Q & A.

This event is recommended for adults and children ages 9+.

This event is free for JCP members and costs $18/family for non-members. Each guest will receive a free copy of the book.

Come and enjoy our meaningful, weekly community shabbat services, followed by noshing and connecting with fellow young professionals.  Whether you’re a regular, or it’s your first time joining us, we’d love to have you!

Services begin shortly after 6pm. Food and beverages after services are optional with an additional cost.

Home-hosted Shabbat

We’re so excited to celebrate Shabbat together!

Some JCP community members have generously volunteered to host Shabbat in their homes. If you’d like to join one of these Shabbat dinners, please complete the registration form ASAP as dinners are filled on a rolling basis. The Shabbat committee will match people based on capacity, kids’ ages, etc. and will aim to confirm groups 2 weeks before the dinner. Space is limited, but please know that if these dates don’t work out for any reason, there will be many more opportunities to be a guest in the future.

Film screening — Torn: The Israel-Palestine Poster War on New York City Streets

Join us for another powerful installment of our Highlighting Healers and Hope Series and our first-ever documentary film screening at JCP. The film weaves together interviews with hostage family members and the artists behind the KIDNAPPED poster campaign which began soon after 10/7. The film studies the tensions brought about by the campaign and explores the question of how a distant war can fracture the social fabric in a city so far away from the conflict.

Following the film, director Nim Shapira will be in conversation with Rabbi Deena about his this impactful work, and there will also be time for Q&A.

Shabbat at Sunrise Senior Residential Living

JCP students of all ages are welcome to join Rabbi Deena to help lead a meaningful Shabbat service for the residents of Sunrise Battery Park City senior living community. Space is limited. Please register each child and adult that will be attending.

God’s Love We Deliver Community Service

Volunteer with God’s Love We Deliver on Friday, March 6th 9am-12pm, to help prepare meals in the kitchen! God’s Love We Deliver delivers over 15,000 medically tailored meals each weekday to clients living with severe and chronic illness who are too sick to shop or cook themselves.

About God’s Love We Deliver: God’s Love is the tri-state area’s leading provider of nutritious, individually-tailored meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves. It’s the only agency of its kind in New York, preparing every nutritious meal by hand and delivering them right to our clients’ doorsteps every day. We rely on volunteers to do all the cutting, chopping and trimming, ensuring that there’s a real human being behind each meal.

REGISTRATION PROCESS: Each volunteer must create an individual account through this following link and register for the shift at least one week before the shift. Volunteers who do not register will not be permitted entry to our building. Volunteers will have up until one week beforehand to claim a reserved spot. Any reserved spots that are unclaimed will be released back to the general public one week before the shift and their spot will not be guaranteed if they do not register.

Details:

  • LOCATION: God’s Love We Deliver is located in SoHo at 166 Avenue of the Americas, which you can get to by taking the C or E to Spring or the 1 to Houston. Our entrance is on the corner of Spring and 6th Avenue.
  • DRESS CODE: For safety and hygiene purposes, volunteers must adhere to the following dress code:
    • Clothing: Wear comfortable, casual clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit messy. Shirts must have sleeves; no tank tops or sleeveless shirts are permitted.
    • Shoes: Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Sneakers or other sturdy, non-slip footwear are recommended. No sandals or flip-flops.
    • Accessories: Hair must be tied back and contained within a hairnet. Jewelry should be minimal or removed altogether. Watches, smart watches and fitness trackers must be removed.

    Age Requirements:

    • Minimum age to volunteer within the kitchen is 13.
    • Volunteers aged 13-15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the entire shift.
    • Volunteers 16 and older may participate independently.

    Additional Information:

    Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled shift for check-in and a brief orientation.
