Hebrew School Project Teachers

JCP is looking to hire talented and engaging teachers for the Hebrew School Project (HSP) for the 2026-2027 school year.

This is a part-time weekly position for Mondays (Grades 3-7), Tuesdays (Grades K-3), Wednesdays (Grades PreK & 2-7), or Thursdays (Grades PreK-5) in the afternoon/evening, generally from 3:00-6:30pm (hours vary slightly by grade).

Job Description

The Hebrew School Project (HSP) is an independent, experiential Jewish weekly after-school program that serves children in PreK through 12th grade. HSP is a program of the Jewish Community Project (JCP), a diverse, innovative, inclusive, and open Jewish community and communal space in Lower Manhattan with a meet-you-where-you-are approach.


JCP is looking to hire talented and engaging teachers for the Hebrew School Project for the 2026-2027 school year. Prior experience as a classroom teacher is not required. Experience working in informal educational settings (e.g. summer camps, after-school programs) is a plus.


Applicants must:

  • Be engaging, enthusiastic, and passionate about Jewish education
  • Have experience working in diverse educational settings
  • Have an understanding of Jewish history, holidays, and ritual, and at least a basic level of Hebrew language abilities
  • Believe in a learner-centered, inquiry-based approach to education
  • Be excited about empowering children
  • Be excited to honor and celebrate the unique needs and interests of each learner
  • Be interested in learning and growing as a teacher and as a professional
  • Be a flexible and adaptable team player, open to creative and collaborative work
  • Be committed to sharing your own ideas and interests
  • Be a self-starter, reliable, and an excellent communicator
  • Have an open-minded approach to Judaism and denominationalism
  • Be available Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays from 3:00-6:30 PM from September 8-May 28
  • Be available to work without visa support

Compensation is commensurate with experience and ranges from $30-$50 per hour as a starting rate.

Lead teachers working on independent curriculum development and lesson planning may be compensated up to $80 per hour.

B’nai Mitzvah Tutors

JCP is looking to hire talented and engaging b’nai mitzvah tutors for the Hebrew School Project (HSP) for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a part-time position for Monday or Wednesday evenings during the hours of 4:00-7:00pm (hours may vary slightly).

Job Description

The b’nai mitzvah program at JCP is an independent, experiential, Jewish weekly after-school program that prepares children in 6th-7th grade to have b’nai mitzvah ceremonies. The program is a part of the Hebrew School Project (HSP), which serves children in PreK through 12th grade.

HSP is a program of the Jewish Community Project (JCP), a diverse, innovative, inclusive, and open Jewish community and communal space in Lower Manhattan with a meet-you-where-you-are approach.

JCP is looking to hire talented and engaging b’nai mitzvah tutors for the 2026-2027 school year to work one-on-one with learners in a unique preparatory environment. Tutors will work individually with learners on Hebrew, prayer, and Torah reading skills while boosting learners’ self-confidence and positive associations with Jewish tradition and Jewish adult role models. Tutoring primarily takes place Monday and Wednesday afternoons/evenings in-person; openings on other days of the week may become available.


Applicants must:

  • Be able to confidently teach Hebrew reading, Torah trope, and prayer skills
  • Be engaging, enthusiastic, and passionate about Jewish education
  • Be passionate about connecting with and empowering middle schoolers
  • Be excited to honor and celebrate the unique needs and interests of each learner
  • Have experience working in diverse educational settings
  • Be interested in learning and growing as a teacher and as a professional
  • Be a flexible and adaptable team player, open to creative and collaborative work
  • Have an open-minded approach to Judaism and denominationalism

Starting rate is $70/hr.
